Blue Owl Gallery

The Blue Owl Gallery has been located in charming downtown Waynesville, NC since 1991, shortly after the Wagners, fell under the magic spell of this small mountain town nestled between the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. With its historic storefronts, old brick sidewalks, gleaming white church steeples and proud old county courthouse, Waynesville felt like...well, home!

As excellent an idea as it was, it was far from an original one. Even before the early 1900’s Waynesville had become a popular destination for tourists, part-time residents, and those exchanging their more hectic city lifestyles for the simpler, quieter pace of a home in the mountains.

Today there are many more galleries, restaurants and interesting shops, but in its heart, Waynesville remains a simple mountain town with its generous local residents and longtime traditions embracing newcomers and blending old ideas with new visions... providing a fertile ground for creativity in all of its varied and exciting forms.

As you enter the gallery, each creaking step across the old heart of pine floors carries a memory of many generations of both visitors and shopkeepers, each seeking their own experiences and a way of capturing just what it is that makes this area so special.

It is in that tradition, that we have chosen to represent some of our favorite NC potters, many who have been preserving their family art form for well over a hundred years and others who are only now creating and forging their own, individual histories.

Alongside the pottery, you’ll find our vintage hand-colored art, antique advertising and popular quotations...all created here by us. And of course, our most recent offering... our, Bears of the Mountains Collection, featuring Penny’s original paintings.

We feel very fortunate when we are often reminded just how much of our art and pottery over the years have become treasured additions to so many homes and families. It has always been our goal to provide residents and visitors alike, unique and timeless art that reflects the values and beauty of our mountains...and all within a range of very affordable prices.
